Her widower John Easterling revealed in a statement on social media that Olivia Newton-John died away quietly this morning at her ranch in Southern California, surrounded by family and friends.

Perhaps Dame Olivia is most recognized for her leading performance in the 1978 movie Grease, in which she played Sandy alongside John Travolta.

With the chart-topping singles "Let's Get Physical" from 1981 and "Xanadu," the title track from the soundtrack to the musical with the same name from 1980, she also had a successful singing career.

Her work garnered nominations for several prizes, including two Golden Globes, as well as numerous other film honors.
